The Bewdley Baptist Art Group was set up by David Goddard in 1999 as a watercolour class to help the church folk to improve their landscape painting and to enjoy a leisure pursuit together. Later in the year it was opened to the wider community.
David and his wife Celia left to set up Eagles Wings school in the township of Khayelitsha in South Africa in 2000.
From 2006 to 2025 the group has been led by Margaret Key and Doreen Deakin.
From 2025 the group will be led by Pam French and Sue Smith

We meet on a Thursday afternoon in the back hall of the Church from about 2-4pm.

The hall has natural light and facilities for disabled access.
Membership is £10 per year plus we each pay £3 per session, payable as £12 per calendar month into our bank account, this pays for the tea/coffee and biscuits, rent for the hall, visiting artists and a donation towards various charities.

We are a self-help group, so no teaching is available, but we try to have a visiting local artist once a quarter to either demonstrate to us or run a workshop. In previous years we have had an open evening with a national demonstrator. The proceeds from this went towards the visiting artists.

In previous years during the August bank holiday we have used “the cottage” of the church as a venue for an annual three-day Exhibition of our paintings. Due to illness and the covid outbreak this was postponed in 2019, 2020 and 2021 but we held the event again in 2022 in the main church and foyer and it proved to be a great success.

In January we hold our AGM where the whole group discuss our finances and the programme for the following year.

We have 19 tables available, and this governs the size of the group
